to every “openminded” christian who thinks youre not homophobic because you “love everyone regardless of sin”… please know you still make all the lgbt people around you want to die and if given the opportunity to cut ties with you they will … if that sounds mean to you then maybe work on not seeing your “loved ones” as sinners for just being who they are and start lovingly embracing their differences instead of barely, bitterly tolerating them

p.s. it’s a widely known “secret” that people who “love everyone regardless of sin” try to “discourage” that “sin” by being passive aggressively abusive and voting for homophobic politicians and policies which make life physically and psychologically dangerous for lgbt people

My AP Psych teacher from high school keeps binders and notebooks with dicks drawn on them to use as visual aids for the Freudian unit.

One time she did this life changing little “experiment” where she ever so calmly asked guys why they draw penises on things. They tried to say “it’s just funny” or “you don’t understand” and she just kept saying “you’re right, I don’t understand. Explain to me. You already know what a penis looks like, why do you have to draw it on things? Are you marking it? Are you tagging it? Girls don’t draw vaginas on things.” And the guys suddenly started questioning their motives for everything they do and one guy was like “ms, stop talking about penises, you’re making us uncomfortable.” And she shouted “HOW DO YOU THINK WE FEEL SEEING DICKS DRAWN ON STUFF ALL THE TIME?”

I don’t want to give people the impression that Venom (2018) is like a Thor: Ragnarok or something.

A lot of what the critics are saying is true – about the plot, the pacing, the…everything really – and yet

When a sweaty Tom Hardy tears open a bag of frozen tater tots and just starts pouring them into his mouth, while an alien symbiote screams ‘HUNGRY!’ and then makes him eat chicken out of the trash…

I’m sitting there feeling like yes, 10/10, movie of the year, give that man an Oscar

Finally, a protagonist who represents the people.

when he just sits in a lobster tank and goes “alright, i’m okay now” like thats such a mood

The big story tonight, honestly I think, are the ballot initiatives.  Here’s a partial list (note, I’m ignoring some really shitty ones, and the ones I know nothing about whatsoever, but…)

  • Colorado ended slavery in prisons
  • Florida added a constitutional amendment enfranchising felons
  • Maryland got same-day voter registration
  • Massachussetts got gender identity protection
  • Michigan got straight-ticket voting, automatic voter registration, same-day voter registration, and no-excuse absentee ballots as well as independent redistricting!
  • Missouri is getting $12 minimum wage by 2023 (currently it’s $7.85)
  • Nebraska expanded Medicaid
  • Oregon refused to ban public money for abortion

Then there’s taking the House, coming to a near miss in Texas Senate (get Beto more funding and have him take another shot in 2020, he’d do more good challenging for Senate again than running for President and losing the primary early), some state houses and senates, some governorships (even if not as many as we’d like)…

Over all, though it doesn’t FEEL like it because the big name races didn’t go great and the Senate got worse, this WAS a good night.

Caveat: these are all preliminary, but that’s what the numbers seem to show right now

I want to add one in my state: Washington votes to require all Law Enforcement to be trained in first aid, mental illnesses, and de-escalation techniques. They will also be required to administer first aid when needed and prove they attempted to de-escalate a situation. This absolutely will save lives.

Just to clarify, Massachusetts already has had gender identity protection since 2016 – this ballot measure was asking if it should be *removed* from the law. And people resoundingly said that we should keep it.

One of the responses I’ve seen a lot to black women requesting a black woman in Overwatch, especially in response to the fact that there are six white women in the game is “but even the white women are diverse, they’re all from different countries!” and yeah, they are, but like, they’re all from Europe. They’re from England, Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland, France, and Russia respectively. And each of these countries has their own vibrant culture, but I’m curious why you don’t assign that level of diversity to Africa. An African hero from Tunisia or Morocco would be completely different from an African hero from South Africa which would be completely different from an Ethiopian hero, and all of these would be different from Numbani. Even outside of Africa, you could make a black woman hero from Georgia or Ecuador or Montreal or Haiti and they would be completely different.

You could add six black woman heroes and have them be more diverse than the six existing white women, but only if you stop viewing black people as a monolith.
