it didn’t occur to me people might not know this but notch isn’t involved with minecraft any more and in fact removing himself from the project was one of the requirements for microsoft to acquire it and it’s become increasingly obvious as to why they wanted to distance themselves and minecraft from him.

He actually publicly asked for a corporation to buy out his share of Mojang after catching flack for an actually good EULA change back in 2014. Basically to stop the predatory-ass megaservers implementing microtransactions, pay-to-win, and “donator” perks (read: hey give us money for in-game shit), in summer 2014 Mojang changed the EULA to basically say “either your server is completely free-to-play with only cosmetics allowed as donor perks, or your server has an entry fee to begin with and no further monetization” and the owners of megaservers and networks like Shotbow, Hypixel, and Mineplex convinced their players that Mojang’s changes would “kill minecraft” and started a #SaveMinecraft hashtag campaign. In June notch tweeted “Anyone want to buy my share of Mojang so I can move on with my life?
Getting hate for trying to do the right thing is not my gig.” then in september microsoft bought the shares of all three mojang founders

so surprisingly enough it was actually a time when he wasn’t being an utter dick that led to the buyout
