The problem with children is that some are super sensitive and will have nightmares of any show that isn’t complete mush, and there are some kids that thirst for blood and love disturbing shit. The “kids are sensitive and can’t be shown dark things” vs “kids can take anything” angles don’t take into account that kids cover a range of sensitivities

Some kids are kind of both, and can handle disturbing things happening to the characters but not blood and guts, or the other way around where blood and guts are fine but realistic psychological horror will scare them in an entirely un-fun way. I was the third type of kid; I loved Animorphs, which is infamous for hiding a dark and morally grey war story behind silly-looking covers (ReBoot’s third season – which I also adored – had some similar themes with fewer limbs getting ripped off, though a main character does lose an eye on screen), and at age twelve I was terrified of the dentist from Little Shop of Horrors. (Not the plant! The dentist.)
