artists complain about not getting notes on their art but then you look at their tags and its just “my oc” and “art.exe”

@adepressingblog save the first five tages for popular tags/descriptions for what the subject of your art actually is. after five tags, the tags after them dont show your post on dashboards of people who track them. use relevant tags that you think a lot of people track or even look at. for example if you have a robot oc, put “robot” tags (or if its a giant robot, “mecha”). painting of a forest? put in “landscape” and “nature”. hell, you could even get away with “architecture” if its art of a building.

once you have five relevant tags that you think people follow, THEN put in your personal organization tags such as “oc”, “my art”, “sketch”, etc. or whatever else you want. im not saying it will get you 500 notes tomorrow, but you will most likely get more people seeing your art.

Tumblr relatively recently changed it to the first 20 tags that show in searches! So now it’s easier to choose multiple tags for things without having to only pick a handful of things that would actually show up in the tag

oh hell yeah, thank you!

it’s still only the first 5 tags that show up in tumblr.com/tagged/[TAG] though so i’d still make the first 5 the most popular for those few who still use the old tag tracking instead of tumblr’s tag following, but mostly people use search so if you want exposure then use bunches of tags!! (as long as they’re all actually relevant, of course.)
