*screams into hands*
I am SO GLAD I didn’t try to watch this, if I got to the scene of the self-mutilation that is described in the review, I would probably have had a panic attack.

(Though tbh I had no real plans of watching this because FOR FUCK’S SAKE HOW HARD IS IT TO CAST TRANS ACTORS TO PLAY TRANS PARTS?)

However, I feel it’s really important to note that the reviewer who wrote this article is cis, and this is a great example of ‘ally is a verb.’ This is an act of alliance, watching and reviewing a problematic piece of media in which trans people are portrayed – badly – by cis people – and warning trans people about the specific content, recognizing why it is an issue, and allowing trans folx to make educated decisions on whether or not they want to subject themselves to potentially-traumatizing/retraumatizing shit like this. This is the very definition of “emotional labor taken on behalf of a more vulnerable group.”

PLEASE NOTE that this review contains a blunt description of horrific self-mutilation and transphobic bullshit from a cis director and cis cast.

Just watch Pose again.
