In the above passage, Ms. DiAngelo is being charitable – I believe that when many white people sic the police on black people, they are fully aware of the danger they are (intentionally) placing us in.

When the police are called on black people—even for trivial things—we are only one “I thought I saw a gun” away from becoming the next hashtag on social media.
