“I have great love for countries in Europe. Don’t forget, essentially I’m a product of the European Union, between Scotland and Germany. Right? My father Germany, my mother Scotland.
I think what has happened to Europe is a shame. Allowing the immigration to take place in Europe is a shame. I think it changed the fabric of Europe and, unless you act very quickly, it’s never going to be what it was and I don’t mean that in a positive way. So I think allowing millions and millions of people to come into Europe is very, very sad. I think you are losing your culture. Look around. You go through certain areas that didn’t exist ten or 15 years ago.”
THIS IS WHITE NATIONALISM
Alright let’s fucking play this game.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with preserving one’s culture. You have every right to love your culture and celebrate it. You know what doesn’t ruin your culture though? Immigrants. Because you already have your culture and people like my family existing in Europe or the US doesn’t take that away from you or anyone else. You’re allowed to exist, we’re allowed to exist. Speaking another language in my home and with my family doesn’t rob you of anything. Teaching our children our customs doesn’t rob you of anything. Keeping our cultural practices, religion, language, etc. doesn’t do shit to you.
And it’s such a fucking joke when you say that immigrants aren’t learning the language and customs because obviously that’s way over blown and erases how many of us have not only lost our language but lost the ability to communicate with younger generations that completely lose their native language. And let’s not forget the ways that the government interferes with this process. You have those that forcefully assimilate children and take them away from their families and then you have those that do nothing to help those who want to learn the language (as well as other aid) and basically dooms these families to a life of extreme poverty. And let’s not even get into countries that go even further to other immigrants through legal discrimination.
But of course you fucking racists will see nothing wrong with this interview because he’s saying exactly what you think. It doesn’t matter that he’s saying Europe = white people with positive culture & immigrant = POC with negative culture which is racist and dishonest in itself. It doesn’t matter that he’s ignoring how the US and Europe has completely destabilized regions and contributed massively to the refugee crisis. And that’s because you people are fucking cowards who give in to the tiniest bit of fear mongering then repeat his BS as if you know what you’re talking about.
White people buy into this fear mongering because of the years of authoritative conditioning they’re subjected to from the US, so when a fascist authoritarian declares a long-dead fear to be true, it’s like their brains snap to accepting an authority’s statement. They fill in the blanks with justifications rather than challenging the lack of truth in said blanks. And then they come to ridiculous conclusions like @tosailmyshadow
has asserted above. Without evidence, without research, and without a defense when we all smack it down!
So to numerous unfortunate people like tosailmyshadow, now immigrants are a frightening boogeyman? That will take the poor defenseless white culture? Even though they have had *centuries* to do that? They must have been terrible at it, because we’ve got millions of new productive workers and business owners, mind-blowing art, advances in philosophy, tons of community events based on culturally-based holidays, hundreds if not thousands of cool languages, countless books, shit, do I really need to go on and on about how good for the entire world immigration is?
Fear of immigrants is a dead fear. It is absolutely dead. It may be zombified among cowards that don’t question authority, but personally, I’d like us to scoop up every refugee and immigrant we can get. Every single one. But feel free to tell me that you want to return that big green statue that’s all about that perspective.
A poem called “The New Colossus” written by Emma Lazarus was placed on
the base of the statue in 1903. The most famous line of the poem is
“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe
free.”
I have found myself realizing that I needed to question what I was told by authority multiple times. Challenging authority and finding strong explanations for your perspectives is actually an honorable part of numerous cultures. If I can make that change, so can lots of others, and they should. The ones who have begun to break out of this now have the task of dismantling this enormous power structure, because people like Donald, who have been manipulating so many people for so many decades, are the root of this problem.
