If you have any sort of pelvic pain, kegels are v bad for you to be doing
I’m going to elaborate because I’m a bit miffed.
You should not do ANY exercise, even 30 minutes of walking daily, without a physical. But you definitely should not be doing any concentrated, specialized exercises like kegels without one, pregnant or not, no matter what Cosmo or Mommy.Com says or whatever bullshit people read says, no matter what your mom/aunt/whoever says.
I had a kidney infection in 2011 that led to 7 years of CONSTANT UTI symptoms that left me feeling suicidal, especially when my urine cultures would come back negative and I had no relief from sitting on the toilet for hours unable to pee. We were sure I had IC, or OAB, or any other list of letters you can think of, and not a single doctor could figure it out, or even take me seriously enough to listen to me. (I only recently found out that I have torn and inflamed pelvic muscles.)
So I turned to “common knowledge” on the internet.
I did kegels per hours of website searching and researching bladder issues, thinking I just had to tighten up the muscles holding my bladder. I didn’t realize I was doing more damage until my therapist told me the risks of kegels. The damage I did doing kegels is now what I’m paying $250 a week to correct with therapy. I can’t stand for more than 30 minutes, walking causes extreme pelvic pain within an hour, and I’m taking more valium than I probably should just to get through the day.
If your doctor says do them, do them! Great! But if they don’t, DON’T. And if you have any sort of pelvic pain and HAVENT SEEN A DOCTOR ABOUT A PLAN OF CARE, don’t do them!
Physical therapy is not a one shoe fits all thing. What some moron who named their kid Mckyaleenlynn said helped her may not be good for you.
