There it is.
Germans learned a hard lesson in the pitfalls of nationalism that Americans have yet to learn.
[ image description is screenshot of article written by Jens Bottiger. It says, “hy aren’t germans patriotic? Germans ARE patriotic. in America you show patriotism by attaching a full size US flag on your pickup truck (or confederate flag for alternative patriotism), singing the anthem before every baseball game, and sending 18 year olds to Iraq so you can later thank them for their service when they roll by you in their wheelchair in Walmart.
In germany we show patriotism by voting for higher taxes on ourselves to make healthcare and college tuition universally accessible to our less fortunate fellow citizens, and by picking up after one another to keep public spaces clean and nice for everyone.
I guess it gets lost in translation.” ]
Now to ruin everyone’s dreams of a ‘safe’ patriotic Germany.
- Germany just recently voted to keep Nazi memorbillia, wondering how this doesn’t say, “we’re proud of our nazi history.” German village votes to keep bell inscribed with ‘Everything for the Fatherland, Adolf Hitler’
- You still vote for the NDP?? The neo-Nazi NPD party has representatives in every county council in the eastern German state of Saxony after it increased its share of the vote in municipal elections on Sunday… There the extremists were the second most-popular party with 25.2 percent of the vote.
- Views on migrants trying to reach safety hasn’t changed much. German city bans new refugees as anti-migrant mood increases…
Cottbus, about 120 kilometres southeast of Berlin, has been rocked by violence from refugees and right-wing extremists since the start of this year. (so note here, they’re trying to say that refugees are violent and far right wingers who hate them for being refugees are violent… seems to me like the far right may be antagonizing refugees to get them to be ‘violent’ and have them exiled. – just a theory)- Seriously please stop saying that you learned from the past. That’s now how capitalism’s boom and bust cycles incite fascist tendencies. AfD takes 13% and projected to be first far-right party to enter Bundestag in six decades
When you use the term patriotism, keep it at it’s original meaning.
The love for your country (which is literally nationalism) almost always spills over into far right nationalism (fascism).
Liberalism blurs the lines.
